Chamomile & Lavender

•January 31, 2011 • 4 Comments

She seduces me with her eyes

without even knowing it

and takes me from a crowded room

into our own private world

Her kisses are

slow

sweet

honey

Her life energy travels through me

with each breath of hers

I breathe in

I am the Earth

to her Northwest rain

taking in every drop

of her wetness

She is my morning meditation

My afternoon Reiki

My Chamomile and Lavender

Late into the night

Mystic

I follow the mystic arc

of your tattoo

around your perfect torso

winding

winding

south

not knowing

where the road

will end

but ever present

in the beautiful

journey

Good Reads: Under The Covers – The Popularity and Debate Over Black Erotic Literature

•December 29, 2010 • Leave a Comment

This is a great post by blogger Cocoa Fly. It delves into the phenomenon of the African-American Erotica boom that started back in 1992 with the anthology Erotique Noire/Black Erotica, and continues to this day.

Six Sentence Sunday – work in progress

•December 5, 2010 • 16 Comments

I’m looking forward to reading all of the authors contributions to Six Sentence Sunday!

This is my first post, it’s from a short story I’m currently working on, as yet untitled:

After what seemed like an eternity to Mark, Sarah emerged from the bathroom wearing the slinkiest black teddy he had ever seen. He could clearly see the soft outline of her breasts, and the hint of areola that peeked through the lace fabric. Her thin panties hugged her curvaceous hips, before diving south around her neatly shaved pubic mound. They had re-lived this scene a thousand times, but tonight, it was all new to him. He couldn’t remember the last time he saw her in a negligee, or smelled the sweet scent of her perfume that he now found enveloping his space, even before she made it over to the bed. With candles flickering on either side of the room, and Maxwell crooning a sexy falsetto from the cd player, she slowly crawled into the bed and laid next to him.

The Uses of Erotic Poetry

This is a great article on Erotic Poetry, in which the writer asks the question: “Is poetry something we come to be civilised by or is it a place where we go to unleash our desires and to hear them echoed?” I didn’t even blink before answering this in my head, because for me it’s always been the latter.

I write erotic poetry to explore my own sexuality, but also, to understand and celebrate human sexuality in general. Writing poetry helps me to put into words something that often times defies words, yet begs to be explored.

Six Sentence Sunday

I’ll be participating in Six Sentence Sunday on 12/5. It’s a teaser of sorts, just pick six juicy sentences from any of your work (published or in the works), and post it on your blog this Sunday, with a  link back to sixsunday.blogspot.com. There’s a short form at their website that you fill in to have a link to your post added to their site.

Luscious Literature

I love coming across new books of erotic poetry. Most of the stuff I’ve found lately isn’t necessarily “new”, but it’s new to me. This anthology of contemporary erotic poems is entitled Passionate Hearts, and its got some really sexy stuff inside. It’s edited by Wendy Maltz, who is an internationally known author, speaker and sex therapist. She also runs the website HealthySex.com.

Here is an excerpt of a poem from the book called All Day At Work:

All day at work
I carry the scent of you
I touch my fingers to my lips.
I remember this morning
how your lips parted
as though there was some secret
you had been holding, were finally ready to share.

Dark Eros: Black Erotic Writing has long been one of my favorite anthologies of erotic poetry. When I first picked up this book, some ten years ago, I was impressed and inspired to see all of these writers of color featured together in one book.

From the poem: Cherry Blessings by JZB

She loves sensuously
With mouth, tongue, and tears.
Warm jasmine oils, candlelight, and bubble baths.

She loves with her whole heart.
With blackberry preserves his mother made.
Beet juice. And Sorghum molasses from home
which make their even sweeter bodies
melt into their oneness.

She loves innocently.
With the energy that always leads the sun
back to the east and allows the child
to love even in death.

Ethereal Erotica

Ethereal Erotica, the latest anthology by Spiritualist Author Deborah Simpson, is now available at Lulu.com. I have five poems in the anthology (three of which are on my blog, along with two previously unpublished). I am looking forward to checking out all of the other poets featured in this collection!

Afrodisiac Seattle

•November 19, 2010 • 2 Comments

I just recently discovered this new crazy-hot venue for Erotic performance here in Seattle. It’s called Afrodisiac, and it is housed in the renowned Little Red Studio, just blocks from the Space Needle. I read a couple of poems there at their last set, and will probably make my way there tonight to read. Performances are on the 3rd Friday of each month. In addition to the poetry, they always have a special sexy performance for the audience (dance, body painting, etc.) Here are a couple of videos I shot on my iphone (sorry about the quality).

I’ve been a long time fan of Tim Siebles, a poet who has a talent for blending the real with the surreal, the sexy with the mundane, always coming up with work that is inspiring, entertaining, and thought provoking.  He is a professor of English and creative writing at Old Dominion University, and the author of five collections of poetry.

Check out his poem Slow Dance.

Excerpt:

I remember those suede boots
you wore to the party last December,
your clipped hair, your long arms
like the necks of swans. I remember
how seeing the shape of your mouth
that first time, I kept staring
until my blood turned to rain.
