Recommended: The Uses of Erotic Poetry
This is a great article on Erotic Poetry, in which the writer asks the question: “Is poetry something we come to be civilised by or is it a place where we go to unleash our desires and to hear them echoed?” I didn’t even blink before answering this in my head, because for me it’s always been the latter.
I write erotic poetry to explore my own sexuality, but also, to understand and celebrate human sexuality in general. Writing poetry helps me to put into words something that often times defies words, yet begs to be explored.
“Poetry is … a place where we go to unleash our desires and to hear them echoed.” I totally agree. Poetry – all poetry, not just erotic poetry – is to be felt and expressed, your deepest emotions articulated so that those who read it have a gutteral response … a primal YES… A knowing deep down in the centre of their beings that they have experienced something.
As you say, “Writing poetry helps me to put into words something that often times defies words, yet begs to be explored.” I totally concur with that And erotic poetry? That speaks to the most physical of our desires…. and if it’s written well, the reader is experiencing all of the sensations written about. At least, that’s my two cents ๐
