So much beauty
in just a smile
sends my mind
reeling
Split second decisions
always seem obvious
in retrospect
but here
now
there is no benefit
of hindsight
only these few
precious seconds
slow as molasses
and sweet as I imagine
your lips to be
in my mind I form the words
in the space between my brain
and tongue
they materialize
I manage a smile
to mask the chaos within
the words finally escape
my lips:
“salted
caramel
latte
please”
